It is acceptable to close the two way left turn lane and both lanes in one direction, <br /> 5 using the two lanes in the other direction to handle bi-directional traffic. Because <br /> 6 of the presence of raised median islands in the vicinity of the work zone this may <br /> I <br /> 7 require complex traffic control that extends quite some distance from the actual <br /> 8 work zone. Full Closure of WMVD will not be permitted without advance approval of the <br /> 12 Contracting Agency's Public Works Director. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 2. The Contractor shall be responsible for notifying all affected property owners prior to <br /> 15 commencing the barricading of streets, sidewalks and driveways <br /> 16 I 17 3. All business driveways shall remain open except as necessary to permit curing of <br /> 18 construction materials or for short periods of time as required for excavations. <br /> 19 However, at least one (1) driveway per business shall remain open to vehicular <br /> 20 traffic at all times unless otherwise approved by the Engineer and affected <br /> 21 property Owners in writing, to the Contracting Agency. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 4. Signs and barricades shall be supplemented by lanterns or flasher units during the <br /> 24 hours of darkness. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 5. Drivers of motor vehicles used in connection with the construction shall obey <br /> 27 traffic rules posted for such location in the same manner and under the same <br /> 28 restrictions as provided for the drivers of private vehicles. <br /> 29 111 <br /> 30 6. The Contractor shall, at all times throughout the Project, conduct the Work in such <br /> 31 a manner to minimize obstruction and inconvenience to vehicular and pedestrian III32 traffic. The streets, sidewalks and private driveways shall be kept open by the <br /> 33 Contractor except for the brief periods when actual Work is being done and a pre- <br /> 34 approved by the Public Works Director <br /> 35 I 36 7. The Contractor shall provide traffic control devices in conformance with the City of <br /> 37 Everett Standard Plans in sufficient number and in good condition as required to <br /> 38 protect the Work and the public throughout the length of the Project. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 8. Provide a Uniformed Police Officer to control traffic in critical situations as <br /> 41 determined by the Engineer. The uniformed officer shall be paid under the , <br /> 42 Contract item "Uniformed Police Officer". <br /> 43 <br /> 44 9. Notify the local Fire, Police and Engineering Departments before the beginning of <br /> 45 each phase of construction so that these agencies may re-route their emergency <br /> 46 vehicles around the construction zone.
