(b) The Contractor shall secure permission from and comply with all requirements
of the water utility before obtaining water from the fire hydrants. The Engineer
shall also be notified by the Contractor of such permission as soon as granted.

(c) The Contractor shall use hydrant wrenches only to open hydrants. He shall also
make certain that the hydrant valve is open "full" since "cracking" the valve
causes damage to the valve. An approved auxiliary valve shall be provided on
the outlet line for control purposes. Fire hydrant valves must be closed slowly to
avoid a surge in the system which creates undue pressure on water lines. The
Contractor shall carefully note the importance of following these directions.

(d) If one of the Contractor's employees shall knowingly or unknowingly use the
I
wrong wrench on a hydrant and thereby damage the hydrant valve stem, the
Contractor will be responsible. He shall immediately notify the water utility so
that the damage can be repaired as quickly as possible.

(e) Upon completing the use of the hydrants, the Contractor shall notify the water
distribution agency so that the hydrants may be then inspected for possible
damage. Any damage resulting from the use of the hydrants by the Contractor
will be repaired by the water agency, and the cost thereof shall, if necessary, be
withheld from the final payment to the Contractor.

(f) Violation of these requirements will result in fines and will lay the Contractor liable
for damage suits because of malfunctioning of damaged fire hydrants, in the
event of fire.

Section 2-07 is supplemented with the following:

(February 17, 1998 City of Everett GSP)
2-07.8 Street Cleaning

2-07.8(1) Description
This work shall consist of clearing the pavement and removing debris from the roadway.

2-07.8(2) Construction Requirements
The use of water to perform clearing work shall be held to a minimum unless designated
otherwise by the Engineer. The Contractor shall provide self-propelled pickup sweepers for
pavement cleaning and debris removal whenever their use is ordered by the Engineer. The
type and number of sweepers are subject to the approval of the Engineer.

The Contractor shall plan the operation to minimize the need for street cleaning.

2-07.8(3) Measurement
Street cleaning will be measured by the hour for the actual time consumed in pavement
cleaning and debris removal. No allowance will be made for time consumed in making
repairs to the equipment or for moving the equipment to or from the site on which the street
cleaning is ordered. No separate payment will be made for water required for the normal
operation of the pickup sweepers.

WEST MARINE VIEW DRIVE UTILITIES PAGE 81 OF 117 August 2018
WORK ORDER#3588
SPECIAL PROVISIONS
