I Pr vi n Famil Services Center 9-9M-ZM3-0
o de ce y
 August 25, 1999 Page 3
l
IKromer Avenue on the west,by Pacific Avenue on the north,by the main hospital structures on the
east, and by a wooded r2vine on the south. The enclosed Site & Exploration P/an (Figure 2)
illustrates these site boundaries and adjacent existing features.
Development plans call for constructing a new Family Services Center at the poject site.
According to drawings prepared by The Robinson Company, this development will comprise a
four-story or five-story, at-grade building with a footprint measuring about 250 feet by 130 feet
overall,and long-range plans involve the possibie construction of one or two additional stories atap
this proposed building. Regardless of its fin21 size, the building will be composed of concrete or
steel framing members with a masonry exteiiar. No basement or other below-;rade rooms are
currently planned,but such options arstill being considered. We anticipate that the building walls
and columns will impose relatively high foundatic,n loads. Figure 2 iilustrates the proposed building
 footprint in relation to the existing structures to tf:e east. New asphalt concrete or cement concrete
pavements will be piaced around the building, along with underground utilities.
IThe conclusions and recommendations contained in this report are based on our understanding
of the currently proposed utilization of the preject site, as derived from layout drawinqs, written
I information, and verbal information supplied to us. Consequently, if any changes are mae in the
currently proposed project, we may need to modify our conclusions and recommendations
contained herein to reflect those changes.
I 3.0 EXPLORATORY METHOD:i
I We explored surface and subsurface conditions at the project site during January 1999. Our
exploration and testing program conprised the following elements:
I • A visual surtace reconnaissance of the site;
• Ten borings (designated B-1 through B-10) with Standard Penetration Tests,
i advanced at strategic locations across the site;
• A review of the logs of eleven borings previously advanced at the adjacert medical
center, as detailed in our Subsurtace Exploration and Geotechnical Enyineering
i Report(W-7503-0) dated 17 June 1991;
I • Three grain size analyses, pertormed on selected soil samples obtained from
strategic locations beneath the site; and
f • A review of published geologic and seismologic maps and literature.

Table 1 summarizes the approximate functional locations, surface elevations, and tertnination
( depths of our subsurface explorations, and Figure 2 depicts their approximate relative locations.

5'.N'ORDPROC;°9 Proiecls5eanle\ROOOs\I272J RonsomPim+Emce MospRGt wpE Q
I
