 Provioence Family Services Cente &9A-Zz3-0
August 25, 1999 Page 6
, Our on-site explorations revealed somewhat variable near-surface soil conditions but confirtned
the mapped stratigraphy at depth. We encountered dense to very dense, silty, gravelly sands
(glacial tlll)at depths ranging from approximately 2 to 40 Feet beiow existing surface grades. This
subsurface till horizon slopes steeply downward to the northwest and is overtain primarily by loose
to medium-dense sands with varying amounts of fines and gravel (recessionai outwash). Our
explorations also revealed localized depo:,its of loose fill soils and relic topsoil horizons,in addition
to lenses of inedium-dense to dense sands with some silt and gravel(weathered till)overfying the
glacial till.
Boring B-10,which was advanced within the a+urty3,-C of the existing medicai buiiding, encountered
refusal on an unidentified obstruction at a lepth of 4 feet. Because this area was fortnerly
occupied by a hotel, we infer that the obsrruction couid be rubble associated with the prior
demolition work. After moving to anothPr part of the courtyard, boring B-10 was successfully
advanced.
l The enGosed expioration iogs provide a detailed description of the soil strata encountered in our
subsurfaceexplorations. Table2summarizestheapproximatethicknesses,depths,andeievations
I of selected soil layers. The enGosed Geologic Cross-Sections(Figures 3 through 7)illustrate our
stratigraphic interpretations at selected locations across the project site, and the Subsurface
( Contour Map (Figure 8) depicts the approximate elevation change over the glacial till horizon.
( TABLE 2
APPROXIMATE THICKNESSES, DEPTHS, AND ELEVATIONS OF SOIL LAYERS
ENCOUNTERED IN EXPLORATIONS
Thickness Thickness of Thickness of Depth of Elvation of
Exploratlon of Fill and Silty, Gravelly Weathered Dense to Very Densa to Very
Topsoil SAND Till Denaa Solis Dense Soils
 (feet) (feet) (feet) (feet) (feet)
B-1 6 14 0 21 186
' B-2 0 9Yz 0 10 199
B-3 0 0 0 6Y 203Y:
B-4 8 0 3Yz 11'/z 205%z
B-5 2 0 0 2 203
 8-6 0 11 0 11 194
B-7 0 28'/ 3% 32 173
 B-8 0 27 5%: 40 159
B-9 SY: 5 0 9Y 195'/
B-10 7 9 4 20 186
( Elevation datum: Site surve ma
I

I 5 10fiDPROP59PmensSeaine13000sn21.'7RaCnsanNovMenceHosp-RpiwpE
I
