TEMPORARY FACILITIES <br /> 015000- 7 <br /> 5. SECURITY AND PROTECTION <br /> 5.1. General: Provide a neat and uniform appearance in security and protection facilities <br /> acceptable to the Architect/Engineer and the Owner. Maintain site in a safe, lawful <br /> and publicly acceptable manner. Take necessary measures to prevent erosion. <br /> 1. Except for utilization of permanent fire protection facilities, as soon as <br /> available, do not change over to use of permanent facilities until Substantial <br /> Completion. <br /> 5.2. Temporary Fire Protection: Until fire protection needs may be fulfilled by permanent <br /> facilities, install and maintain temporary fire protection of the types needed to protect <br /> against losses. Comply with recommendations of NFPA Standard 10. Locate fire <br /> extinguishers where most effective;provide not less than one on each floor at or near <br /> each stairwell. Provide type "A" fire extinguishers for temporary offices and spaces <br /> where there is minimal danger of electrical or flammable liquid fires, and type <br /> "ABC" dry chemical extinguishers elsewhere. Store combustible materials in <br /> containers in fire-safe locations. <br /> 1. Review fire prevention and protection needs with local fire department <br /> officials and establish procedures to be followed in the event of fire. Instruct <br /> personnel in procedures and post warnings and information. Maintain <br /> unobstructed access to fire extinguishers,temporary fire protection facilities, <br /> stairways, and other access routes. Prohibit smoking in hazardous areas. <br /> Provide supervision of welding operations, combustion type temporary <br /> heating units, and similar sources of ignition. <br /> 2. At temporary water outlets provide hoses of sufficient length to reach <br /> construction areas. Hang hoses with a warning sign, indicating that hoses are <br /> for fire protection purposes and are not to be removed. <br /> 3. At the earliest feasible date complete installation of the permanent fire <br /> protection facility, including connected services, and place into operation and <br /> use. Instruct key personnel at the site on how to use facilities which may not <br /> be self-explanatory. <br /> 5.3. Barricades, Warning Signs and Lights: Comply with recognized standards and code <br /> requirements for erection of substantial, barricades where needed to prevent <br /> accidents. Paint with appropriate colors and warning signs to inform personnel at the <br /> site and the public, of the hazard being protected against. Provide lighting where <br /> needed, including flashing red lights where appropriate. <br /> 5.4. Enclosure Fence: Install an enclosure fence with lockable entrance gates to enclose <br /> the entire site or portion sufficient to accommodate the construction operation. <br /> Install so as to prevent persons, dogs and similar animals; form entering the site, <br /> except through the entrance gates. Permanent fence as shown on the site plan may be <br /> used for this requirement. Contractor shall repair and replace any parts damaged <br /> during construction. Temporary construction fencing as it pertains to each phase(as <br /> described in Section 010100)must be installed prior to mobilization of related <br /> construction activities. <br /> 02/19/13 <br />
