6. There is a one-hour wall notation on Sheet A005 on the ground floor surrounding the
stairs and elevator area. If this is the one-hour occupancy separation between the S-2
and I-1 occupancy above than door 024B and adjacent sidelite should be shown as
minimum 45-minute rated assemblies. More simply, the stairway enclosure itself (on the
lower floor) could be the occupancy separation — the diagram on sheet A005 would just
need to be revised.
7. One-hour, fire-resistive roof/ceiling assembly detail R1/A601 depicts TJI's however the
project uses trusses and 2x12's. Fire-resistive assemblies using wood-trusses and 2x12's
should be provided. Section 703.2
8. The roof/ceiling assembly over the exterior deck (room 117) and western patio should
be shown as minimum one-hour fire-resistive construction as those useable areas under
the projected roof constitute building area. Section 602.1
9. The following comments apply to the shafts on the second floor:
a. Fire dampers should be provided at the duct penetrations of the concrete floor
(Section 1717.6.1), or
i. The shafts should be shown as minimum one-hour fire resistive
construction to maintain the one-hour occupancy separation between the
occupancies on each floor (Sections 508.4.4 and 717.6) and,
ii. The shafts should be shown to continue to the underside of the roof
sheathing (Section 707.5).
10.The following comments apply to air ducts penetrating the fire-resistive ceiling
membrane of the second floor roof/ceiling assembly in accordance with Section 717.6.2:
a. Air ducts that penetrate the ceiling should be shown with ceiling radiation
dampers.
b. Exhaust ducts serving the dryers within the laundry room will be required to be
within a rated shaft through the attic. The shaft construction should be detailed
on the plans.
c. Any duct serving the kitchen hood (residential, type II or type I) should be
provided with a shaft.
11.The upstairs kitchen has a commercial cooking appliance shown (American Range
AR12G-6B). The manufacturer's specification indicates this equipment is a Heavy Duty
Restaurant Range. IMC Section 507.2 requires a Type I hood for this application.
Clearance to combustibles is also required by Section 507.2.6 which may necessitate the
revision of wood framing to non-combustible framing.
a. Note: we have correspondence forwarded from DOH that there is a state
amendment to the IMC regarding this. The amendment and section were not
provided. Assuming this is the amendment to Section 507.2 Exception 2 we will
need further verification that there is a state interpretation affirming that an I-1
Condition 2 Occupancy is a 'R-2 type Occupancy' in this instance.
12.The proposed dishwashers (Fagor CO-502W) are high-temperature, commercial
dishwashers. Type II hoods are required per Section 507.3
Egress
7
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8813 • Page 2
