• <br /> . <br /> Section 2302 - Definitions <br /> (a) Venting system: Is the vent or chimney, its con- <br /> nectors assembled to form a continuous open passageway <br /> from an appliance of combustion. This definition also <br /> shall include the venting assembly which is an integral <br /> part of the appliance. <br /> (b) Venting systems — Types <br /> (1) Chimneys or vents of masonry, reinforced con- <br /> crete or metal, and factory built chimneys approved <br /> or listed for products of combustion at temperatures <br /> in excess of 550°F. <br /> (2) Type B - Factory-made gas vents listed by a <br /> nationally recognized testing agency for venting <br /> listed or approved appliances equipped to burn <br /> only gas. <br /> (3) Type L is a venting system consisting of listed <br /> vent piping and fittings for use with oil-burning <br /> appliances listed for use with Type L or with listed <br /> gas appliances. <br /> (h) Water Heater: is an appliance designed primarily to <br /> supply hot water and is equipped with automatic controls <br /> limiting water temperature to a maximum of 210° Fahrenheit. <br /> "Section 2303 - Permits - It shall be unlawful for any <br /> person to install or cause to be installed any water <br /> heater without first obtaining a permit to do so. <br /> Section 2304 - Inspections - Water heater inspection shall <br /> be made after all work authorized by the permit has been <br /> installed. The Building Official will make such inspection <br /> as he deems necessary to assure himself that the work has <br /> been installed in accordance with the intent of this Code. <br /> No equipment or part thereof shall be covered or con- <br /> cealed until the same has been inspected and approved by <br /> the Building Official. <br /> "Section 2305 - Gas-Fired Water Heater Approval Require- <br /> ments <br /> " (a) Gas fired water heaters and gas fired hot water boilers <br /> shall conform to approved recognized applicable standards <br /> or to other standards acceptable to the Building Official. <br /> Each such water heater or boiler shall bear the label of <br /> an approved testing agency, certifying and attesting that <br /> such equipment has been tested and inspected and meets <br /> the requirements of applicable standards. <br /> (b) Gas storage-type water heaters and hot water <br /> boilers shall be provided with, in addition to the <br /> primary temperature controls, an over-temperature <br /> safety protection device constructed, listed and <br /> installed in accordance with nationally recognized <br /> applicable standards for such devices. <br /> Section 2306 - Oil Burning and Other Water Heaters <br /> (a) Water heaters deriving heat from fuels or types of <br /> energy other than gas shall be constructed and in- <br /> stalled in accordance with approved standards in a man- <br /> ner satisfactory to the Building Official. Vents or <br /> chimneys for such appliances shall be approved or <br /> listed types and shall be installed in conformity with <br /> their conditions of approval. Proper provision shall be <br /> made for an adequate supply of air for combustion and <br /> for adequate ventilation of heater rooms or compartments. <br /> -4- <br />
