B. Merchant Patrol Agency: Means any person, firm or corporation engaged in the merchant patrol business , as that term is hereinafter defined, employing one or more persons as employees , assistants , clerks or operatives ; C. Merchant Patrol Business : Means the business of or the representation of being engaged in the business for hire or reward, and, as an independent contractor, of guarding or protecting persons or property or patrolling buildings , streets or districts , for such purpose; D. Private Detective: Means any person engaged in the private detective business , as that term is hereinafter defined, including employees of a private detective agency; E. Private Detective Agency : Means any person, firm or corporation, engaged in the private detective business , as that term is hereinafter defined, employing one or more persons as employees , assistants , clerks or operatives ; F. Private Detective Business : Means the business of or the representation of being engaged in the business of making an investigation or investigations for hire or re- ward, covering or revealing crime or criminals , or secur- ing secret information or evidence relating thereto; the habits , conduct, movements , whereabouts , associates , repu- tation, character or actions of any persons , firms or cor- porations ; the location or recovery of lost or stolen property; the causes , origin, or responsibility for fires , accidents , and injuries to real or personal property; the securing of evidence to be used before authorized investi- gating committees , boards , or in the trial of civil or criminal cases . Section 5 Bond: Every applicant for a detective agency license or merchant patrol agency shall file with the City Clerk at the time the application is filed a surety company bond running to the City of Everett, in a penal sum of two thousand dollars , conditioned that the licensee will faith- fully comply with all the requirements of this chapter, insofar as they relate to the business of detective or detective agency or merchant patrol agency. Section 6 Exemptions : Nothing in this chapter shall apply to any officer or employee of any state , county, city or town, appointed or elected by due authority of law; to any person, firm or corporation whose business is the furnish- ing of information as to the business and financial stand- ing and credit of persons , firms or corporations ; nor to any person, firm or corporation inquiring as to the personal habits and financial responsibilities of applicants for insurance , indemnity bonds or commercial credit, or of claimants under insurance policies .
