Page 4- 1 City Charter and this ordinance. 2 Section 4 : Types of Employment. Classified positions 3 shall be considered as all positions except those held by 4 Appointive Officers or Day Laborers . Classified positions 5 shall be filled in the following manner : 6 1. An appointment of one of the three top ranked appli- 7 cants on an appropriate certified eligibility list. 8 2 . An acting or temporary appointment. Such appoint- 9 ments in the non-uniformed City service shall be for a 10 period not exceeding 90 days, subject to two extensions 11 of additional periods not exceeding 30 days each when 12 granted, in necessary cases , by the Personnel Officer 13 and concurred with by the Civil Service Commission 14 upon satisfactory written justification by the de- 15 partment head and only until a regular appointment 16 can be made . Acting or temporary appointments in 17 uniformed City service may be made for a period not 18 exceeding 6 months , subject to extensions of addi- 19 tional periods not exceeding 30 days each in accord- 20 ance with the above procedure . No temporary or act- 21 ing appointment shall continue beyond a 30-day period 22 after the certification of an appropriate eligibil- 23 ity list of three or more names . 24 Section 5 : Eligibility Lists . After an examination, an 25 eligibility list shall be prepared and kept available. The 26 scores used to establish the list shall include veterans 27 credit if applicable under RCW 41 . 04 . Whenever identical 28 ratings are earned, as the result of an open and competitive 29 examination, they shall be considered as equal in rank. When- 30 ever identical ratings result from a promotional examination, 31 seniority shall be the deciding factor in determining the 32 ranking of eligibles .
