All testing values shall be in metric.
Power Meter Testing
Power meter testing shall be used to measure the end-to-end attenuation of each
existing fiber. Power meter testing shall be performed at the 1310 and 1550 nanometer
wavelength in both directions.
Prior to commencing testing, the Contractor shall submit the manufacturer and model
number of the test equipment along with certification that the power meter has been
calibrated within 12 months of the proposed test dates to the Engineer.
The following information shall be documented for each fiber test measurement:
1. Fiber/Strand#
2. Fiber type
3. Cable, tube, and fiber IDs
4. Near end and far end test locations
5. End-to-end attenuation, in each direction and the bidirectional
average
6. Length of span being tested
7. Date, time, and operator
8. Wavelength
Fiber Cable Testing Documentation
The Contractor shall submit one hard copy and one electronic copy of the fiber test
results to the Engineer for approval. The Contractor shall take corrective actions to any
damaged cables, as described above.
Upon acceptance of the cable installation and test results, the Contractor shall submit
one hard copy and one electronic copy of the fiber test results to the Engineer.
The hard copy submittal shall be bound in a 3-ring binder. The binder shall have the
following information on the front and side:
1. The title "Fiber Optic Test Results"
2. The name of the roadway(s)where fiber was installed
3. Contract name and number
4. Date
The front cover shall also include the company name address and phone number that
did the fiber optic work.
Each 3-ring binder shall also include a table of contents and index dividers for each
cable segment and each direction tested.
The following information shall be included in each test result submittal:
1. Contract number, contract name, contractor name and address
2. Dates of cable installation and testing
Swift Green Line—Corridor Stations Special Provisions SP131
May 2017
